How to Fix a Flickering Monitor
Posted by admin on 09/29/06 in Computers
If you have an older monitor or CRTÂ, occasionally you may notice the screen flickering, or distorting itself similar to bad TV reception. This can get really annoying but the monitor fix is quite simple.
Monitors that flicker or begin flickering can really tick you off, as time’s a ticking let’s get to licking this problem. My use of rhymes here is getting sickening.
Do you know what a Refresh Rate is? It’s the number of times per second that a display is illuminated. Think of it like a really fast strobe light lighting up your screen.
You can fix a flickering monitor by changing the refresh rate via the control panel.
Goto:
Control Panel>
Display>
Settings>
Advanced>
Monitor
And increase the refresh rate of your screen.. Once you apply the changes this should fix the flickering immediately. If it doesn’t try another refresh rate.
If your monitor keeps flicking on an off, check your cable connections and if the monitor is more than five years old, you may want to consider upgrading to a new model. Flat screen monitors have really come down in price lately.
